Quick rules refresher

You throw the pin (the molkky) to knock over skittles numbered 1 to 12. Knock down a single skittle and you score its number; knock down several and you score the number of skittles felled. The goal is to reach exactly 50 points.

  • Going over 50 drops your score back to 25.
  • Three missed throws in a row and you are out.
  • You stand each skittle back up where it landed: the formation spreads out.

Mistake 1: always aiming for the big numbers

The beginner reflex is to aim for skittle 12 to score big. It is risky: a single skittle is hard to hit, and you miss often. Knocking down three or four skittles clustered together scores few points but very reliably, which resets your miss counter and edges you forward safely.

Mistake 2: throwing the molkky badly

Throwing the pin so it spins end over end makes its path unpredictable. Throw it flat, in a gentle arc, with no spin: it arrives face on and topples the skittles cleanly. Look for a steady motion rather than a powerful one.

Mistake 3: forgetting the exactly-50 trap

Plenty of games are lost within touching distance of victory. At 46 or 48 points, aiming for a big skittle can take you over 50 and send you back to 25. Switch logic near the end: work out the exact skittle you need and aim only for that one.

  • At 45, you need 5: aim for the lone skittle 5.
  • At 48, you need 2: aim for a single skittle numbered 2.
  • At 49, you need 1: skittle 1, or any single skittle worth 1.

Mistake 4: ignoring your miss counter

Three misses in a row and you are out. A beginner tempted by risky throws can rack up failures without noticing. After a miss, play safe on the next turn: aim for a cluster of skittles to score for sure and reset the counter.

The right mindset

Molkky rewards consistency, not flashy shots. Aim true, manage your endgame, and let Pelouzz track the scores, the drops back to 25 and the eliminations for you: all you have to do is throw.

Frequently asked questions

Should you aim for the big numbers at molkky?

Not early in the game. Knocking down several clustered skittles scores steady points and avoids misses. You only aim for a single specific skittle late on, to reach exactly 50.

How do you throw the molkky properly?

Throw the pin flat, in a gentle arc, without spin. It arrives face on and topples the skittles cleanly. A steady motion beats a powerful but wild throw.

What do you do as you close in on 50 points?

Work out the exact skittle you still need and aim only for that. Going over 50 sends you back to 25, so aim small and precise rather than big and risky near the end.
